How GrowsChat Protects Your Privacy While You Chat

Privacy on GrowsChat isn't a settings page you have to go find and configure, it's built into how the product works by default. Here's a transparent look at the actual decisions behind that, not just a general promise.

Guest access is the default, not a workaround

Most platforms treat account creation as the entry point, and guest access as a limited fallback. GrowsChat reverses that. You can use text, voice, and video chat fully as a guest, with no email, password, or personal profile required. An account exists for people who want to save chats or add friends, it was never meant to be the price of using the platform at all.

What we actually collect, and why

As a guest, GrowsChat collects a temporary session identifier and basic technical information, like your general region and device type, used specifically for matching and abuse prevention. That's close to the minimum needed to keep the platform functional and safe. No name, no profile, no browsing history tied to your identity.

If you create an account, that expands slightly to include your email and any preferences you set, but it never goes beyond what's needed to provide the features you're actually using.

Messages and calls aren't stored by default

Text messages aren't retained beyond your active session unless you have an account and specifically choose to save chat history. Voice and video calls aren't recorded. A brief portion of video calls is automatically screened for safety purposes, and that screening isn't retained afterward unless something is actually reported.

We don't sell your data

This is a simple sentence to write and a real commitment to keep. No user data is sold to advertisers or third parties. Where the free tier is eventually supported by ads, that will use aggregate, non-identifying information, not a personal profile built from your conversations.

AI never means less privacy

Using GrowsChat AI as a fallback when no real match is available doesn't come with extra data collection beyond the same minimum guest session information. It also doesn't mean your conversation is used to train external AI models, it isn't.

Why we're building it this way

The honest reason is that most of the mistrust around chat platforms doesn't come from any one incident, it comes from a general sense that platforms collect more than they need to and aren't clear about it. Building minimal data collection into GrowsChat's default design, rather than treating privacy as an opt-in setting, was a deliberate choice made early. More on the broader thinking behind this in why we built GrowsChat.

Frequently asked questions

Can GrowsChat see my real identity as a guest? No. Guest sessions aren't tied to any personal profile, name, or identity, only a temporary session and basic technical information used for matching and safety.

Does creating an account reduce my privacy? It adds an email and any preferences you set, but nothing beyond what's needed for account features like saved chats. It doesn't change how conversations themselves are handled.

Are my video calls recorded? No. Calls aren't recorded. A short portion is automatically screened for safety, and that screening isn't retained unless something is reported.

Is my data used to train AI models? No. Conversations aren't used to train external AI systems.
