By accessing or using Pairly ("Pairly", "we", "us", or "our") - including as a guest, or through text, voice, and video chat, and any subscription plans - you agree to this Privacy Policy and consent to the collection, storage, and processing of your information as described here.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Guest sessions
- A temporary session identifier and device fingerprint, used to enable matching and prevent abuse.
- No name, email, or personal profile is required or collected to use Pairly as a guest.
1.2 Account information (optional)
- If you choose to create an account: email address, password (stored securely, never in plain text), and any language or matching preferences you set.
- Subscription status and billing history, if you subscribe to a paid plan.
1.3 Usage and device data
- IP address and approximate region, used for matching, rate limiting, and abuse prevention.
- Device type, browser, and app version, for compatibility and crash reporting.
- Session timestamps and general activity (e.g., time spent matching), for reliability and safety monitoring.
1.4 Chat and call data
- Chat messages are automatically deleted after 30 days, for both guest and account users. This applies regardless of whether you're logged in.
- Voice and video calls are not recorded. A brief portion of video calls is automatically screened for safety (e.g. explicit content detection) and is not retained afterward unless reported.
- If you submit a report, the relevant message or call metadata may be retained temporarily for review.
- Pairly does not support user-uploaded photos or videos - only a fixed library of Pairly-created AI stickers is available, alongside text and live audio/video.
1.5 Payment information
- Subscription payments are processed by a third-party payment provider. Pairly does not store your full card details.
- We retain transaction records (amount, date, plan) for billing and legal compliance.
1.6 Third-party services
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers, to operate the platform.
- Analytics and crash-reporting tools, to monitor performance and fix issues.
- A payment processor, for subscription billing.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To match you with other users based on your stated preferences.
- To operate the disclosed Pairly AI fallback when no real match is available.
- To detect abuse, prevent spam, and enforce rate limits.
- To process subscription payments and manage billing.
- To respond to support requests and safety reports.
- To monitor and improve platform performance and reliability.
3. Cookies and Tracking
- We use minimal cookies/local storage necessary for session management (e.g., remembering your theme or language preference).
- Analytics tools may use cookies to understand aggregate usage patterns - not to build individual advertising profiles.
- You can disable non-essential cookies via your browser settings without affecting core functionality.
4. AI and Automated Processing
- AI is used to match users and to power the disclosed Pairly AI fallback - never to impersonate a human without disclosure.
- Automated screening is used on video calls for safety purposes.
- Your conversations are not used to train external AI models.
5. Sharing Your Information
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Limited data is shared with trusted service providers (hosting, payment processing, analytics) strictly to operate the platform.
- We may disclose data if legally required, such as in response to a valid law enforcement request.
- Aggregated, anonymized data (that cannot identify you) may be used for research or reporting.
6. Data Retention
- Guest session records (display name, preferences, and matching identity) are kept for up to 30 days of inactivity so you can resume where you left off if you return - after 30 days with no activity, they're automatically and permanently deleted. Chat messages follow the same 30-day retention as everyone else's - see Section 1.4.
- If you have an account, your data is retained until you delete your account.
- Data related to an active safety report is retained only as long as needed for review.
- Transaction records are retained as required for financial and legal compliance.
7. Your Rights
- Right to access, correct, or delete your personal data.
- Right to withdraw consent for optional processing (e.g., analytics).
- Right to object to automated matching or moderation decisions.
- Right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority in your region.
8. Security Measures
- Encryption in transit (TLS) for data sent to and from Pairly.
- Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text.
- Access to user data is restricted internally on a need-to-know basis.
- We maintain a process for responding to and disclosing data incidents where required by law.
9. Children's Privacy
- Pairly is intended strictly for users aged 18 and above.
- We do not knowingly collect data from minors. Accounts or sessions found to belong to a minor will be terminated.
10. International Data Transfers
- Your data may be processed in countries other than where you live.
- Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for such transfers.
11. Changes to This Policy
- We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements.
- Material changes will be communicated in-app or via email where applicable.
- Continued use of Pairly after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
