This one's a bit different from our usual posts, it's a direct collection of the questions we get asked most often about GrowsChat itself, in one place.
Do I need to create an account to use GrowsChat? No. You can start chatting instantly as a guest, no email, no password, no forms. An account is optional if you want to save chats or add friends later.
Is GrowsChat free? Yes. Text, voice, and video chat are all free with no sign-up required. A paid Premium plan exists for people who want extras like priority matching and filters, but the core experience has never been paywalled.
Do I need to download an app? No, GrowsChat works directly in your browser.
How does matching actually work? We match you with someone based on your language preference. If no one's available right away, you may briefly connect with GrowsChat AI while we keep looking, always clearly labeled as AI.
Can I choose who I talk to? Matching is random by design, that's the core idea. You can set a language preference now, with more filters planned for Premium users.
What happens if I get disconnected from someone I liked talking to? You can send a friend or message request before disconnecting, so the conversation isn't lost even if the match ends unexpectedly.
Am I ever talking to AI without knowing it? No, never. If you're matched with GrowsChat AI while we find you a real person, it's always clearly labeled. You'll never be left wondering whether you're talking to a real person. We wrote more about why this matters in why hidden AI bots are a problem.
Why does GrowsChat use AI at all? Mainly to keep the experience from feeling empty when there aren't enough real matches available at that moment, especially outside peak hours. It's a disclosed fallback, never a replacement dressed up to look human.
What happens if someone is inappropriate or makes me uncomfortable? One tap blocks and reports them, ending the conversation immediately. Every report is reviewed, and video calls include automatic content checks for added safety. Full details are on our Safety page.
Is my data sold or shared? No. As a guest, we collect the minimum needed to keep the platform functioning and safe, nothing is sold to third parties.
Can someone see my real identity? No. As a guest, you're identified only by a temporary session, no name, email, or personal details are shared with the person you're matched with.
Can I switch from text to voice or video mid-conversation? Yes. Start with text, and either person can suggest moving to voice or video at any point, with no pressure to switch if you're not ready.
What languages does GrowsChat support? The interface is available in multiple languages, and matching can prioritize the language you're most comfortable speaking with others.
Is there a way to save conversations? Not by default as a guest. Creating an account lets you save chats and message people after disconnecting.
